Flushing is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Traffic in Flushing peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. The food here is an absolute delight. It reminds of the local canteen I would frequent during my internship in Bangalore. This is the spot for fans of south indian food or vegetarians. We got the Hyderbadi Masala Dosa, Idli Vada Combo, and Puri Chole. The food is hot, well-seasoned, and the chutney is chef's kiss π

We arrived about 15 minutes after opening, and everything was incredibly fresh! The sambhar was hot and perfectly spicy, and the chutney was absolutely delicious. Both the idli and vada were spot on, but the standout was the spicy paneer masala dosaβit was excellent. Finished the meal with a really good madras coffee. The food is inexpensive, and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. There is convenient parking located right behind the temple. Hands down one of the best places in the entire New York metro area for authentic South Indian food!

A true hidden gem! The food here is incredibly tasty, we tried the idly, vada and dosa, which were very tasty.. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very efficient, ensuring the service is quick. The pricing is also very reasonable for the quality you get. Itβs a huge plus that they have a dedicated parking lot, which makes visiting stress-free. It also has a large Ganesh Ji idol insid, it adds such a peaceful and authentic vibe to the entire space. Highly recommended!

This is one of the most well-known South Indian eateries in the New York City area, located not in Manhattan but in Flushing, Queens. What makes it unique is that itβs situated in the basement of a South Indian Hindu temple. You can attend temple service upstairs and then come downstairs to the cafeteria-style eatery. We visited one evening close to closing time, but the place was still packed β mostly with Indian diners, which makes sense since many of us eat dinner late. While the temple upstairs was what youβd typically expect, the dining hall downstairs was lively and full. Even so, we managed to find a table. This is a fully self-service setup. You place your order at the counter, sit down, and wait for your number to be called to collect the food. Thereβs no table service or fancy dining experience here β itβs rustic, basic, and entirely focused on fresh, hot, authentic South Indian (Tamil-style) food. We started with upma, which tasted very homely β the kind that reminds you of food cooked at home. The portion was generous enough to share between two people and came with sambar. Interestingly, the sambar here seemed to be made with moong dal instead of the usual tuvar dal
